As the weather heats up, plants are at their full peak, weeds are growing, grills are firing, lawn chairs are being sat in, kids are playing in the backyard. Spending time outside can be a lot of fun! To keep it fun, you’ll want to avoid toxicodendron – that’s the scientific name for the genus of plants that includes poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. You’ve heard of these before, but more importantly, you’ve heard of how the oil that comes from them can affect you!
In order to avoid these plants, you’ll need to know what they look like. A quick internet search can give you plenty of pictures to compare to the plants you find in your yard. While it is a good idea to kill or remove these plants, you’ll want to do so carefully, not allowing them to touch your skin at all. Also, make sure you don’t burn them, as the smoke from burning these plants can cause major issues for your lungs or eyes.
