Have you noticed that your air conditioner seems to be running 24 hours a day? If so, much of the reason for the constant cooling may be due to solar heat gain. That’s a fancy term to define how the sunshine makes your house extra hot. If you suspect that may be having a big impact, you might consider implementing some landscape shading ideas on your property.
Landscape shading means introducing trees, shrubbery, or other types of plants to help reduce the amount of bright sunlight that is absorbed by your home throughout the day. Trees, for example, have a process called evapotranspiration. This is a big word that describes how water vapor is moved and released from a tree. That process can cool air around the tree by almost 10 degrees. In addition, cool air settling under a shady tree can be as much as 25 degrees cooler than the air temperature above the nearby driveway.
