You’ve probably seen this scene in movies and tv shows a hundred times. It’s a wide shot of a living room, dining room, or bedroom filled with buckets, pots, pans, and practically any other container that you can think of, placed in strategic locations around the room, directly under a constant dripping of water. While this can be entertaining when we watch it happening to people on television, if it’s ever happened to you, you know how incredibly infuriating a water leak can be.
The main reason why it’s so infuriating is that the drip is probably not the real source of the water leak! Water can travel a very long way before it finds an exit, so the leaky pipe inside your ceiling could be many feet away. Fortunately, there’s a way to identify the source of a water leak without tearing up your finishes. Thermal imaging can see inside wall and ceiling cavities, revealing temperature changes caused by water flow, showing you exactly where the leak starts.
