If you saw our last blog post, you know we’re focused on the topic of powering your electronic devices and other appliances. In this blog post, we’d like to talk about a simple device that millions of homeowners have all over the house – the mighty power strip. Power strips can be extremely helpful, since there are usually only two electrical outlets per receptacle, and these are not usually placed in perfect locations around your house.
However, there’s a significant potential for danger when using power strips. Having too many power-hungry appliances plugged into a power strip can overload it, and you should never plug high voltage appliances like refrigerators into a power strip. If you see metal showing between a plug and the power strip, you’re not plugging it in far enough, and it may spark and possibly even start a fire. It’s also very important to never use a damaged power strip. The damage may seem cosmetic, but it could be a symptom of a far greater problem.
