Have you ever left a candle burning in a room you were not in? Thousands of fires are started in homes each year because of candles. Candles can make a home atmosphere super cozy, especially in the colder seasons. But when using them, you have to take some precautions.
Never leave a candle unattended. They should only be lit where people are present. Make sure that the candles are on a proper surface, stable and heat resistant. Watch that your kids or pets are not able to knock them over. Along with that, make sure there is no breeze from a window or fan that could spread the flame. It has been recommended to trim the wick down to 1/4” before lighting it. This will keep the flame from getting too large.
If lighting your candles with a match, dispose of the match properly. Do not ever throw a warm match into the trash bin, as this can ignite the trash, especially highly flammable items. Instead, run the match under water, or allow it to cool on a heat-resistant surface before throwing it into the trash bin.
