After it’s installed, – as long as there aren’t any major problems – most people don’t give a second thought to the clothes dryer in their home. And that makes sense! This is one of those appliances you expect to “just work”. However, did you know that the ordinary clothes dryer has the potential for causing significant damage to your home?
It’s true. First, consider the potential for water damage. Each time you run your clothes dryer, it’s turning approximately a gallon of water into a vapor that’s expelled through the exhaust vent. If that exhaust vent is pointed indoors, this can cause significant moisture issues over time. Second, you should be aware of the potential for fire damage. Typically, the ducts attached to a dryer’s exhaust vent are pointed straight out, with no bend at all. If the ductwork has sharp curves, it could be trapping lint and other particulates being expelled from your dryer, which can be very flammable.
