When you watch home improvement shows, look at most real estate listings, or see advertisements about vacation resorts, how much clutter do you see? None! You likely understand that this is an effort to make the place look as nice as possible. However, it’s more than just an advertising gimmick. In the case of selling property, keeping it free of clutter during tours or in listings is a critical component to giving potential buyers an accurate view of the place.

For example, imagine that you were thinking of buying a home, but the seller refused to show you just one room of the house. Everything else looked great, but you were simply not allowed to even open the door to that one room. Would you still be interested in buying the home? Probably not. Similarly, if a house has an excessive amount of clutter, buyers could imagine that there are significant issues hidden underneath all that clutter. At the very least, clutter can make your house seem significantly smaller.
