When it’s raining outside, do you use an umbrella or put on a raincoat before stepping out the door? Why do you do that? Vapor barriers are designed to keep moisture out of (or, in some cases, in) your house. Vapor barriers of different types have different “perm”, or permeability ratings. This number indicates how easy it is for moisture to pass through the layer.
