With winter temperatures coming, keeping warm in your home is super important. How can you keep warm and keep your heating bill from being outrageous? Costs are always rising, but there are a few things to help lower the bill a little.
For one thing, dress warmer. That sounds so simple, but it’s true. Many people like going barefoot, wearing t-shirts and shorts, while keeping the home toasty. Instead, lower the temperature, and wear some warmer clothes and slippers. Next, make sure you aren’t losing that costly heat through cracks and holes. Check around your windows and doors for where heat may escape and cold air may leak in, and seal it up.
If you have hard floor surfaces, use area rugs. This can help the rooms retain heat. Make sure that furniture is not placed close up against vents or radiators. You want to allow for proper airflow. If you have ceiling fans, adjust them so they turn clockwise, and keep them on low. This will help circulate the warm air that has floated up to the ceiling. One last tip is to keep your window coverings open during the day to allow sunlight to stream in, but close them up at night so warmth doesn’t escape.
